2025-2026 Scheduling Information

We understand that choosing classes for the upcoming school year can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be. At Colony Middle School, we’re committed to helping every student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally as they prepare for success in high school and beyond.

To support a smooth transition, all 6th-grade students will conclude their day with an Advisory class, Tuesday through Friday, designed to guide them from elementary school into the middle school environment.

Some 7th and 8th grade students, identified as benefiting from additional support, will also be placed in Advisory to help build the skills needed for a successful middle school experience.

🧠 In addition to Advisory, all students will be enrolled in four core subjects:

  • Math
  • Language Arts
  • Science
  • History

🎨 Students may have up to three elective class periods, depending on their schedule.
Each semester-based elective may only be taken once per year, with the exception of Physical Education, which may be taken once per semester.

📍 For more details about available electives, please check out the information below or reach out directly to your student’s counselor for personalized support.

Advisory Class: Building Connections & Success

Our middle school Advisory class is designed to support students both academically and personally during their transitional years. Held at the end of the day (Tuesday through Friday), Advisory provides a structured space for building relationships, practicing organizational skills, and strengthening social-emotional learning.

Whether students are adjusting to middle school life or working toward academic and behavioral goals, Advisory helps cultivate a sense of belonging, responsibility, and self-confidence—setting the foundation for success at Colony Middle School and beyond.

Core Classes

The Core Instruction classes refer to Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.  These are classes that all students will take at Colony Middle School, helping to set the groundwork for when they experience this content in high school.  At Colony Middle School, students can take the right classes that meet them where they are academically and help them get to where they need to be.  Each student is different, and we honor those differences here at Colony Middle School.  Class placement is determined by considering your student's level, teacher recommendations, and parent input.  No one number could ever represent your student, and we firmly believe that parents get to see the other half of the picture, which will help us as we work with our students.

In addition, students at Colony Middle School have the ability to take these classes for high school credit while in middle school:

  • Algebra 1

  • Geometry

  • English 1

  • English 2

  • Civics

  • Biology

Elective Classes

The Elective classes refer to optional classes where students can be introduced to various interest areas.  This will further help students understand what classes they may want to take when they start high school.   Below are the classes that are offered at Colony Middle School:

  • Art

  • Family & Consumer Science Class

  • Music

  • Physical Education

  • Spanish

  • STEM

Students are able to repeat these courses every year since the content covered by these courses is different for each grade level.
