2024-2025 Scheduling Information
While selecting the classes that you or your students want to take next school year can seem daunting, it doesn't have to be. Our goal is to help your students to be able to succeed here at Colony Middle School and prepare them for when they move on to high school. Each student's schedule is broken up into three components; The 4Cs class, the Core Instruction classes, and the Elective classes.
At Colony Middle School, students will start their mornings Tuesday-Friday with their 4Cs class. Additionally, students will take classes from four core areas: Math, Language Arts, Science & History. Finally, they will also get the opportunity to take four semester-long elective classes each year. Each semester-based elective class may only be taken once per year except Physical Education, which students will be able to take once each semester. More information can be found below or by contacting your student's counselor.
The 4Cs stand for Community, Career, College, and Credit. 4Cs at Colony Middle School is a daily class (Tuesday through Friday) that will ensure all students are high school-ready by the time they complete middle school. Colony Middle School's goal is that all 8th graders will be ready for Algebra 1 (or beyond) by the end of their 8th-grade year. Additionally, students will be prepared to be successful high school-level writers.
Here are a few things that your students will experience in their 4Cs:
-
A 4Cs mentor will coordinate with teachers, counselors, and families to foster the success and growth of each student. Students will have this mentor for all three years that they attend Colony Middle School.
-
Weekly goal-setting and grade checks
-
Various outcomes are geared toward equipping students to be successful academic scholars.
-
Students will spend structured time working on reading, writing, and mathematical skills each week.
-
Gaps in learning outcomes will be identified and addressed.
-
Students will be supported in accelerating beyond their grade level.
The Core Instruction classes refer to Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. These are classes that all students will take at Colony Middle School, helping to set the groundwork for when they experience this content in high school. At Colony Middle School, students can take the right classes that meet them where they are academically and help them get to where they need to be. Each student is different, and we honor those differences here at Colony Middle School. Class placement is determined by considering your student's level, teacher recommendations, and parent input. No one number could ever represent your student, and we firmly believe that parents get to see the other half of the picture, which will help us as we work with our students.
In addition, students at Colony Middle School have the ability to take these classes for high school credit while in middle school:
-
Algebra 1
-
Geometry
-

-
English 2
