To Parents/Students:
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. There is lots of info on this site. Enjoy.
-Please welcome our new CMS music teacher, Ava Voegel to CMS who would like the chance to continue to work with your children to continue their music experiences. She will be taking over for the 2025-2026 school year. She has a lot to offer and new ideas to bring this program forward. If you need to contact her, please email her at ava.voelker@matsuk12.us
- The last things coming up are the Play (May 9-7PM, May 10-2PM), Banquet (May 12-6PM is dinner), Talent Show (May 15-7PM) and 8th grade Promotion (May 20-12PM).
- 4th quarter Practice Charts will start on Sunday, March 2. This quarter charts will run from Mar. 2 till May 3 (8 weeks, 280 pts. Charts are weekly assignments. They are worth 35 pts each week for 2 hours of practice (and yes they get partial points for charts with 0-119 minutes). Charts go from Sunday to Saturday every week. Students turn them in to the “Snoopy” box every week. They need full name, the date of the week they practiced, times for each day, total time added up and a parent signature. All of this needs to be graded. Students can practice more than 2 hours if they want and put that on another chart if they are going to be gone on another week (like a vacation). Charts can be turned in up to 2:30 PM on May 9 (yes, this is not the end of the quarter due to the fact that after the concert/playing test, there is no new material for students to work on). I won’t take them past 2:30 PM even if they are sick from school. They have all quarter to turn in stuff even if they choose to turn it in at the end only. Please be aware that if a student turns them in at the last minute and they are not filled out correctly, they will not be graded, and I can’t return them to the student for them to repair them.
-Extra Credit is going on for band, choir and orchestra students. March 9-15 Spring break practice charts are not being graded as a chart. If a student turns them in, I will give your student extra credit for those weeks.
-Spring Play is "Big Bad" by Alec Strum. It is the trial of the Big Bad Wolf from the Fairy tale people. Shows are May 9 (7PM) and May 10 (2PM). This will also feature the CMS Musical Theater short plays (2 of them per show). Tickets will be sold 1 hour before the show at the door for $5 each (cash or check to CMS-sorry no credit card).
- Steel drum class for incoming 10th graders through adults is June 2-6 from 5PM-7:30 PM each night. If you are interested, please email or call Mr. Lambert.
-NOTE: I uploaded to your child’s google class a video that summarizes the Aug. 19 Parent meeting. Lots of info about policies, grading procedures, events info and more. Please use it if you need to get detail info on a lot of these items.
