Saving Teens At Risk (STAR)

🌟 Empowering Students to Support One Another: The STAR Program at Colony Middle School

At Colony Middle School, we believe in fostering a culture of care, connection, and courage. Our Saving Teens At Risk (STAR) group is a powerful example of students stepping up to support their peers through education and advocacy.

The STAR program offers students the opportunity to learn about suicide prevention and antibullying strategies in a safe, supportive environment. After completing their training, STAR members lead peer-to-peer suicide prevention presentations for fellow students at Colony, helping raise awareness and build a community of understanding and support.

In addition, our 8th-grade STAR leaders extend their impact beyond our walls by visiting surrounding elementary schools. There, they present an antibullying workshop to 5th-grade students, equipping them with tools and confidence as they prepare for the transition to middle school.

The STAR team meets every Wednesday at 7:15 AM in the school counseling office with Mr. Ryan Parker. All students are welcome to join and be part of this meaningful movement to uplift and protect one another.

Together, we shine brighter. 💫

The Colony Middle School STAR team was recognized as a recipient of the prestigious Spirit of Youth Award in the Life Saver category during the past school year!

This award celebrates young Alaskans who have gone above and beyond “the call of duty” by actively preventing injuries and illness and, in many cases, saving lives. The STAR team exemplified this spirit through their dedication, compassion, and quick-thinking actions that made a real difference in our school community.

Their commitment to safety, wellness, and peer support reflects the very best of what it means to be a Colony Knight. Whether responding to emergencies, promoting health awareness, or simply being a steady presence for those in need, the STAR team has shown that leadership and courage have no age limit.
